The Undinic Sisterhood

Here you will find a basic set of rules and direction of structure found in an Undinic Cove. This is not a complete and comprehensive list as there are features of the Sisterhood that are kept oathbound.

Cove Structure

A Cove is a group of Undinic Witches (alternatively referred to as sirens) that exceed no more than 13 members: representing the 12 Queens with the addition of the Cove Leader (referred to as the Lead Siren) representing Ocean Mother. As in Gardnerian Wicca, The Undinic Sisterhood has a degree path, each degree being referred to as a “wave.” Their are seven waves in the Undinic path and the titles are that of feminine medieval royalty. Each wave has its own privileges and responsibilities.

  • Lady: This is the first wave and is the title given upon initiation. Requirements for initiation can vary from Cove to Cove, but the one requirement is for the postulant to choose a craft name that they will be referred to within the Maelstrom, subsequent to their current title. A Lady’s responsibility is to learn the core ritual and to assist at the Lead Siren’s request. Eligibility for initiation requires perfect performance of the core ritual prior to elevation and to display a good understanding of basic Undinic Craft.
  • Baroness: This is the second wave and is the title given upon elevation. A Baroness’s responsibilities are to assist at the request of the Lead Siren as well as being able to perform a supporting role in a 12 Queen Celebration recital. Eligibility for elevation requires perfect performance of a supporting role in a 12 Queen Celebration recital as well as completing their Siren Song.
  • Countess: This is the third wave and is the title given upon elevation. A Countess’s responsibilities are to assist at the request of the Lead Siren as well as being able to perform supporting and Queen roles in 12 Queen Celebration recitals. Eligibility for elevation requires a perfect performance of a Queen role in a 12 Queen Celebration recital as well as making three additions to the Book of Tides: one piece of magick, a short essay on a topic of their choosing, and an Ode to Ocean Mother.
  • Marquianess: This is the fourth wave and is the title given upon elevation. A Marquianess’s responsibilities are to assist at the request of the Lead Siren as well as being able to perform supporting and Queen roles in 12 Queen Celebration recitals. They are also eligible to add to the Book of Tides upon approval of the Lead Siren. Eligibility for elevation requires a 5-10 page research paper on an approved topic of their choosing as well as giving a short presentation to perform for the Cove.
  • Duchess: This is the fifth wave and is the title given upon elevation. A Duchess’s responsibilities are to assist at the request of the Lead Siren, perform supporting and Queen roles in 12 Queen Celebration recitals, and to begin running their own outercourt. Eligibility for elevation requires choosing a matron and name for their cove and to acquire all the necessary tools. They will perform a 12 Queen Celebration recital of their chosen matron. If a recital is unavailable for their chosen matron, they must create one.
  • Princess: This is the sixth wave and is the title given upon elevation. A Princess’s responsibilities are to perform supporting and Queen roles in 12 Queen Celebration recitals and begin operating a maiden cove as a Lead Siren where they will still be under the auspices of their Reigning Queen. They are eligible to initiate and elevate up to the wave of Princess. Eligibility for elevation requires them to be able to perform the Blue Moon Festival rite.
  • Queen: This is the seventh and final wave and is the title given upon elevation. At this final stage, the Queen has all the responsibilities and privileges of the preceding waves and is tasked to make final decisions for their cove and their maiden coves. This wave is the one and only wave eligible to perform Blue Moon Festival rites.

Guidelines

  • All seekers must be 18+
  • While entry into a Cove is not guaranteed, no one is to be discriminated against based on race, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or biological sex. Despite the organization being a sisterhood, those with masculine identities are welcome.
  • Requesting or giving currency is strictly prohibited within Cove activity and practice. This includes but is not limited to training in Undinic practices and philosophies, Cove innercourt or outercourt dues, initiations/elevations, favors of working magic or divination, and other cove rituals including public ceremonies. Charges can be made for favors for anyone outside the outercourt or innercourt, not for initiates, students, or seekers.
  • A seeker must spend at least 6 months in what is called an outercourt which is a training ground for a potential initiate. There, they will learn the basic fundamentals of witchcraft, the magickal properties of Water and the nature of the undines.
  • Rituals are performed while robed with the exception of initiations, elevations and Blue Moon Festivals which are all performed skyclad (ritual nudity).
  • Maelstrom meetings are to be performed on Saturdays after sundown, with the most ideal Saturday being the one closest to the full moon.
  • Blue Moon Festivals are to be performed on the night the blue moon is most full and must always be performed by the Reigning Queen whether or not there are attendees.
